Foreign Languages Faculty trains foreign language teachers and linguists-interpreters. The Faculty includes 3 departments: English Philology Department, German and French Philology Department, Translation and Translation Studies Department, as well as the Goethe-Institute educational centre and Laboratory of New Technologies in Education. The Faculty has a specialized library, numbering about 10,000 books; the audio collection comprises more than 800 items, and the video collection – more than 400 items.
There are the following Bachelor’s and Master’s Programmes at the Faculty:

The teaching staff are 49 persons, including 6 Doctors of Science and 24 Candidates of Science.

English-leaning students have their language practice in international language schools in the UK (A+ Centre, Sheffield; Bury St. Edmunds Language School, Bury St. Edmunds) and the Western Michigan University in the USA (Kalamazoo).
Successful students have the opportunity to participate in the student exchange programmes implemented together with partner institutions in Italy, Finland and other European countries. There they study in English.
For teaching foreign languages modern textbooks of well-known European publishing houses are used: Langenscheidt, Klett-Verlag, Hueber, Longman, Cambridge University Press and Macmillan. The educational process is organized according to the newest learning standards, harmonized with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment) that gives students the opportunity to successfully pass the international certification exams:
- in English: IELTS, TOEFL, KET, PET, FCE, CAE,
- in German: Start Deutsch, Zertifikat Deutsch, Goehte-Zertifikat B2, Goehte-Zertifikat C1.
Students of the Faculty became winners of the all-Russian competitions of the talented youth achievements "I’ll be appreciated in the XXI century" and "The Russian National Patrimony". The Faculty annually performs “Week of students’ science”, within which there is the student academic conference to be held, known translators and teachers present their workshops.
Extracurricular student life is bright and diverse. Our students are regular participants and multiple winners of the University contest "What? Where? When?", "Miss of Pushkin LSU", "Student of the year".
For university entrants who just graduate from schools of Leningrad Oblast and St. Petersburg, the departments hold annual competitions in English and in German.
The teaching staff improve their skills at various courses of conversational language and culture, methodological seminars, during language practices in Germany, the UK and the USA.
Foreign Languages Faculty publishes “Issues of Germanic and Romanic Philology. Scientific notes" (collection of academic articles), holds international academic conferences "Issues of Philological Science" (within international academic conference "Tsarskoe Selo Readings") and "Translation. Language. Culture".
CAREER AND EMPLOYMENT
Foreign Languages Faculty trains foreign language teachers and non-specialized linguists-interpreters. The graduates work in institutions of secondary and higher education in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, in the tourist business, as translators in various translation agencies and other similar organizations.
